What is a Spam Trap Email Address?:

Answer: Spam traps email addresses are emails contained in certain lists that when emailed, will instantaneously blacklist your mail servers and IP addresses by effectively shutting down your web hosting immediately and in some cases might even revoke the very domain URL from where your emailing from (Especially if you get a DNSBL listing against your domain). Contrary to what some list scrubbing companies are claiming on the Internet (Like our Competitor DataGenie for example) it is impossible to simply “Scrub” a list of spam traps unless you actually email that particular address directly. You see, a normal list scrubbing software program only deals with Bad Syntax email addresses (Like Hard Bounces and Timed-Out Email Addresses) but the software will not know how to identify Spam Traps because Spam Trap Email Addresses effectively look like normal email addresses (I.E. joeguy@thiswebsite.com as an example). It looks legitimate and will come back as a good syntax email if tested with a list scrubbing software. The problem comes in though when you email it, because the first time you email that particular address a report is sent over to SpamCop.net which immediately notifies your web hosting companies Spam Abuse Department. If the Spam trap gets more than one of these emails it can then Blacklist your IP addresses, domains and hosting company (effectively shutting down your attempts to send bulk email). Therefore, the only real solution to getting rid of a Spam Trap Email Address is to actually email the new list and sit back and watch the IP’s and domains get blacklisted and then identify which email addresses are problematic and quarantine them so we do not ever email them again. We have done this with every major list we have purchased or acquired.

We have gone through (literally) 17 dedicated servers and nearly 500 different domains to acquire this private database. Considering that a dedicated sever costs anywhere between $200-350 a month, we could have saved a HELL of ALLOT of money if we would have just known about an offer like this and were able to have run a suppression list prior to emailing those lists for ourselves out of the gate. It is important for you to understand that when you acquire this data that you only use it as a suppression list (DO NOT ATTEMPT TO EMAIL THIS LIST AT ANY COST!!) Most of every bulk email software company on the planet allows you to upload a suppression list of emails that are guaranteed never to be emailed by that particular software in case you did not manually remove them out of your database. This is how you would need to use this data once you buy it.

**It is important to note that getting spam complaints when you email is inevitable (because it is simply the nature of the business) but hitting a SPAM TRAP is different and can be avoided by using this list as a suppression list.
